Shaun of the Dead Analysis
The genre of this film is instantly recognisable from the first few screenshots. It starts with a newsfeed advertising horror of a zombie invasion with grainy cuts to create an eerie feel. This is how horror is established in this movie and is clear a spooky element will be invovlved. However the comedy element is established within the first few seconds when the news tell people to keep calm and not panic, and instantly after Simon Pegg (as Shaun) and Nick Frost (Ed) jump up, wave their arms around and scream in a comedy like fashion. This diffuses the tension from the start and shows the two protagonists creating the comedy genre. Also, the lighting in the background is rather light nearly all the way through which diffuses the tension and keeps the mood higher than a typical horror film. The edits are facepaced to keep up with the action of the film; them killing zombies. The trailer focuses on the main action between Simon Pegg and Nick Frost having to defend themselves against this Zombie invasion. The zombies themsleves are shown to be comical as you hear Simon Peg say 'Hes got an arm off!', again diffusing the tension. Simon Pegg is shown to be the main protagonist as he comes up with the main plans and is shown leading the charge whilst fighting off zombies. Nick Forst is shown as the comedy side kick as he delivers the comedy one liners and is seen doing inapropriate things; such as answering a text when the main cast are surrpunded by zombies.
